Midterm exam

Date/time: during the 219A class of Wed, March 18 (1.5 hours).
Syllabus: All topics from the beginning of the class upto (and including) linear equation solution. Also aspects of biological rate equations (by popular demand in class, thank you!).
Format: closed book; handwritten answers.
What to expect: the examination will focus on concepts and their application, not on rote memory. For example, you need not bother to remember the details of model equations like ))Schichman-Hodges, or the details of PNJLIM, or the exact structure of DAEAPI-v1. You should plan to remember simple model equations and structure, e.g., upto the rough level of complexity of theEbers-Moll(( BJT; how/why limiting works, what a given function in DAEAPI-v1 is supposed to do, etc.. You should certainly "remember" and be able to work with basic algorithms like N-R, LU, etc.. There may be questions that ask you to write or debug MATLAB/similar code on paper.
What to bring: Pens; calculators if you want (though you shouldn't need them).
An example of the style of exam the instructor prefers: see here. Note that this is not on numerical simulation, but it may provide some useful flavour of the style of the midterm. Of course, we will not be using C/C++, but MATLAB or MATLAB-like pseudo code.
